Introducing the Next Gen of Disaster Response
Helping NeverAgain gain traction and support for data-driven disaster response and coordination

Role:
NeverAgain is a nonprofit organization committed to serving people in danger and strengthening public safety and response to violence and harm in real time.
They are developing a service with the aim of leveraging aggregate data (crowd-sourced, social networks, government agencies, professional orgs, etc.) to enable citizens, responders, and disaster relief organizations to better communicate, coordinate, and recover together.
While at Salesforce, I worked on a project to develop concepts, a pitch deck, and an early concept video that NeverAgain could use for promotion and fundraising. We worked closely with Founder and CIO, Goeff Green.
At the core of the project was Beacon, a conceptual prototype to demonstrate the numerous ways that NeverAgain's service hopes to aid and assist citizens, responders, and more in times of great need.
As part of our research on the project, we conducted interviews with residents affected by the 2017 Atlantic hurricane season. This greatly informed our design process and became a key element of telling the NeverAgain story.
The video element, originally drafted as a narrated explainer, took on a life of its own after seeing and hearing the stories of the survivors. So we made the decision to ditch our original direction and build the video around their experiences with a call-and-response style motif.
After cutting the interviews and captured footage together with sourced storm footage and other stock assets, I lightly animated some of the ux concepts developed by the team.
The video was just one piece of a much larger project with NeverAgain but it helped set the tone for their presentation at Dreamforce that year and gave them a new way to quickly and concisely share their value prop going forward.
